Facility Projects

Capital Gifts are the cornerstone for OU Athletics’ facility projects. As one of a select number of self-sustaining athletic departments in the country, our facility projects simply do not happen without private support in the form of capital gifts.

OU Athletics’ primary goal is to provide the best student-athlete experience in the nation. Every year we see great examples of new, elite student-athletes competing on the biggest stages of their respective sports. Through your generous investment in our student-athletes, we are inspired daily by their stories that truly exemplify our five core values: Masterful, Accountable, Gracious, Inclusive and Competitive.  Each value is strategically aligned to create a world – class experience for over 500 student-athletes representing 21 sports.

State-of-the-art training and competition facilities are an integral part of the student athlete experience. These types of facilities are built solely through private support with no reliance on state tax dollars, student fees or general university funds. The Great Expectations Capital Campaign that was initiated in 1999 was the most recent comprehensive effort to raise private funds to renovate our athletic facilities. With this $100M campaign, 14 of our athletic facilities were able to be newly constructed, renovated or expanded. Since the inception of the Great Expectations Campaign, OU has won 17 national championships, 80 conference championships, produced 611 All-Americans and graduated 1,846 student-athletes.

Nearly 20 years later, our facilities are aging creating a growing need to once again transform our venues to keep OU at the top. At the University of Oklahoma, we are built different, we don’t play catch up, we boldly lead the way by always pressing forward. In the upcoming years, we have a significant opportunity to position our department for future successes. We will embark on several state-of-the-art facility projects to meet the needs of our student-athletes, aim to increase our scholarship endowments and grow our planned giving program.

Today, more than ever, we need the invaluable generosity of our Sooner Club members. With no student fees or general university funds, each facility project and scholarship endowment are funded through private support. Donors have the option to pledge a multi-year gift or make a gift in full towards a specific project.

When committing to a capital gift, each member has various opportunities to leave a meaningful legacy with OU Athletics via naming opportunities recognizing generous support.  Members may also elect to make a capital gift anonymously. Nonetheless, a capital contribution significantly changes the future of OU Athletics.
